Reflection:
Storytelling is an ideal way to grab the viewers attention by pulling them into the emotions of the storyteller. Wether it be fictional or autobiographical, telling a story is the best way to enter another world besides the present. Intelligence is not just reading from textbooks, or listening to your teachers. Telling stories helps us explore ourselves in the way a simple classroom scene cannot.
My story is about the struggle my brother and I faced while growing up. It tells of how we dealt with the divorce of our parents. My main focus in the movie was to portray the relationship my brother and I have shared throughout the past few years. I chose this story because it is the most important part of my life that made me the way I am today. Instead of talking about myself, however, I decided to tell you about something that has been on my mind a lot lately. That is my brother, Bill, and the different struggle he is going through. Sharing this story helped me collect my thoughts about why my brother and I are the way we are. This was the biggest event in our lives and it's important to share. I have to admit I was a little hesitant to share this personal of a story, but now that I have I am so glad I did.
As I stated in my process, there were a few things that I struggled with while making my movie. The first thing I had trouble with was writing and editing the script. There was so much I wanted to say but I needed to keep it as simple as I could. Also editing the audio was difficult. I have never used the program Premiere so working with the audio was a bit of a challenge. Through all these struggles I do believe I came out with a great product. My story came together very nicely in the end so I am very happy with it. Although there are some things I would have changed. I would have recorded my script better so I could sound like I'm just talking to a few friends. This would have made the story seem more realistic rather than someone talking from a piece of paper. I'm sure my editing skills weren't too great either, but I did my best! Creating this digital story was a lot different from other projects we have done. We learned how to use other programs and tools which made this project an even better experience.
My Process:
Coming into this project, I have to admit, I was a little worried. I have never done anything in the sense of a movie. However, as soon as I recieved the assignment I knew exactly what story to use. What you have seen in my movie is just a portion of the experience I wanted to portray, so it was hard for me to write and edit the script. Recording and editing the audio was deffinately difficult for me given that it was my first time working with it. However, once i got the audio how i wanted it, arranging the pictures was somewhat easy. I decided not to overpower the movie with picture after picture. I tried to keep it simple because of the fact that the storyline was somewhat complex. Working on this movie was a wonderful experience for me to learn more about what I love and more about myself.
